Reflective is Sheffield's bassline label. We didn't read about the scene — we were the scene. When the bassline first crawled out of the city's warehouses in the late nineties, all wobble and weight and low-end you could feel in your teeth, we were the ones pressing it to wax and passing it hand to hand.

Sheffield is the Steel City. It knows how to forge things and it knows how to make noise. Bassline came from the same place the steel did — heat, pressure, working people making something heavy out of not very much. That's the sound we've carried ever since: bassline, grime, drum & bass, hardcore, house and the oldskool rave cuts that raised us, from the Fantazia and Dreamscape days right through to whatever's dropping tonight.

They tried to shut it down. In 2005 they came for the clubs, pulled the licences, killed the rooms where all this was born. It didn't work. You can close a door but you can't close a frequency. The floor moved, the sound went pirate, and it went worldwide — and we kept pressing.

Thirty years on we're still here, still independent, still at 7 Earl Street in the middle of Sheffield.
